Realtor closing gifts

A closing gift is a referral instrument, not a thank-you card. It works only if it is still visible in the house years later, when your client is asked whether they know an agent. Wine and baskets are gone in a month. A board with the client's own name and the year they bought is on the counter for a decade — $32.99–$39.99, less in volume.

The one rule

Their name, not your logo

A branded object is advertising

Your logo on a gift tells the client what the gift is for. It gets thanked for, then stored. The visibility you paid for lasts as long as it takes to find a drawer.

A named object is a possession

The Harpers · EST 2026 is theirs. It stays out because it is about them, and it reminds them of the house — and of who handed it over — every time they use it.

Questions

Closing gift questions

What is the best closing gift for a real estate client?

Something that stays visible in the home for years, because a closing gift is a referral instrument rather than a thank-you card. Wine, candles and gift baskets are consumed within a month and take your name with them. A board engraved with the client's own name and the year they bought the house stays on the counter.

Should a closing gift have my logo on it?

No. Anything carrying your logo reads as advertising and goes in a drawer; anything carrying the client's name reads as a gift and gets displayed. The recall you want does not come from them seeing your brand — it comes from them being reminded of the house, and of who handed it to them, at a moment they would otherwise not think of you.

How much should a closing gift cost?

$50.00 to $100.00 is the practical range on a median sale, which is a very small fraction of the commission. A board is $32.99–$39.99 before the volume discount, so most agents add the gift box or give two boards rather than stretch to one expensive object.

When should I give it?

At the closing table, or within the first week. A gift that arrives a month later has missed the moment it was meant to mark. Because each board is engraved with a specific name, order ahead of the closing date rather than after it — 3 days at the bench for a single board, 10 days for a run of ten or more.

Can every board in a bulk order have a different name?

Yes. That is the point of ordering ahead — a run of 10 or more comes at 10% off and each board carries its own client name and year. Runs are confirmed in writing with a proof sheet showing every name exactly as it will be engraved, before anything goes on the laser.

What volume discount is there?

10% off from 10 boards, 15% from 25, and 20% from 50. At 20% a bamboo board is $26.39. Allow 10 days rather than the usual 3.
